Christiane Northrup is an author and a board certified doctor of Obstetrics and Gynecology who trained at Tufts University and Dartmouth. The focus of her work is on women’s health care, wellness and the unity of mind and body. She is an internationally known figure in her field and is the co-founder of the Women to Women Health Care Center in Yarmouth, Maine.
Northrup has dedicated her career to helping women learn how to foster better health and wholeness in their lives. Northrup believes that the mind plays a key role in overall health and that having a balanced mental and emotional state can lead people to good health and happiness. She believes that optimal health is possible only when people treat their bodies as unique and sacred entities that must be listened to intuitively. Northrup asserts that through inner wisdom, people can attune themselves to what their bodies need and by changing their thinking, emotions and behaviors, people can ultimately create a more fulfilling and joyful life experience.
Northrup is a best-selling author and is well known in the field of women’s health and wellness. Her first book, Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom, published in 1994, sold more than 1.25 million copies and has been translated into sixteen languages. Northrup has written several more books, including: Your Diet, Your Health and the Wisdom of Menopause. Northrup’s books focus on women's health, menopause, relationships and diet.
Her book, Mother-Daughter Wisdom, gained her a nomination for the Quill Award and was developed into a television special. She has also appeared in two other public television specials: Women’s Bodies, Women’s Minds and Women’s Bodies, Women’s Choices. Her books and television specials have gained her public recognition and media attention. She has appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, The Rachel Ray Show, NBC Nightly News, The View and Good Morning America.
Northrup currently publishes The Dr. Christiane Northrup Newsletter and also writes a monthly e-newsletter called, Women’s Health and Wisdom. She travels extensively lecturing on her work and resides in Southern Maine.
